Children from a nearby estate running around the grounds and car park shouting until early hours of morning

Staff helpful & friendly; rooms generously sized and clean. On site (free) parking.
Lack of air conditioning - rooms were very hot; noise (people & dogs) from surrounding area till early hours disturbed our sleep. Lack of facilities - no opportunity to get food or hot drinks on site other than at breakfast.

The room was clean and had convenient amenities like central heating, a work desk, and a TV with multiple channels, and it was nice being close to a beautiful square within walking distance in a local neighborhood.

Free parking (lots of it) in a busy city. Convenience for the ferry to uk. Relatively easy to find in a traffic-confusing city. Within walking distance to the shops and city centre bars and eateries.
Being a school, the bedroom was quite basic (wooden floors, for example) and we had to remind ourselves that this was a city-centre location, at a popular and bustling seaside resort in the summer, when comparing the price for the night with our stay in central Spain the night before at a 4-star hotel (which was much cheaper).

Reasonable location for city centre with easy free parking. Very quiet when we stayed, which was ideal.

A quaint hotel in a very nice garden setting. The hotel is not large and was very friendly. We did not eat at the hotel as it was in July when the students are on holiday and the restaurent was closed. The receptionist recommended a restaurant 2 minutes away which was excellent.
There are no signs to direct you to the hotel and there is only a narrow gateway in a high wall as access from the main road. However it is worth the effort to find it

Edificio y habitaciones bonitas, limpias.

The breakfast was wonderful with a coffee machine. The room was great-sized and airy. The bathroom was particularly well equipped with a hair dryer, a bidet, and complimentary toiletries. The location was particularly good and lovely, close to Bilbao and the Guggenheim gallery.

Spacious room with large windows opening on to large terrace and lovely gardens. Good views over the hills. Rooms at the back of the hotel very quiet. Large modern bathroom. Very large free parking area which was being refurbished at the time of our stay. Quite a long walk downhill to the city centre but convenient bus service adjacent to the hotel.
This is a hospitality training school but we found staff standards very lax. Students very pleasant but not professional. No atmosphere of hotel nor of restaurant. The restaurant was a very basic room with basic furnishings. Breakfast was ample but uninteresting and there were no cooked dishes. There seemed to be good numbers of the public coming for lunch which was cheaper than the evening meal. We had opted for the " gourmet tasting menu" in the evening. On our first night we were the only clients so we cancelled not wishing to eat alone. On our second night there were several other people but service did not start until 9.30pm and as we were the only people there we spent time in the bar where we had a glass of very mediocre cava and felt like intruders. No nibbles were provided with the drink, the only place in Spain where we have found this. The meal when it arrived was a most disappointing experience in every way and at 30 euros was very poor value. The house Rioja wine was also poor. We have a local hospitality training school where standards of cooking, presentation and staff training are very high making it a pleasurable experience to eat there. Las Carolinas has a lot of work to do to raise their standards to an professional level. We would certainly recommend the accommodation but not the restaurant.
